PURPOSE: To surely receive a facsimile signal when the setting of facsimile reception is left not set or the like by setting the facsimile reception automatically by a calling operation from a caller negotiated in advance even when the mode is set to the telephone mode in the case of the absence of the operator or the like.

CONSTITUTION: An incoming call is received by the control of a CPU 1 and a connection processing unit 9. The CPU 1 discriminates whether or not number of times of ringing of a CI signal is proper in the case of the arrival of the call. Then the line is connected by a caller side. The CPU 1 discriminates the lapse of time T from the interruption of line till a succeeding incoming call and sets the telephone mode forcibly into the facsimile reception mode as a command of facsimile reception from the caller when the time does not elapse. Facsimile text data are received by means of the control of the CPU 1 and the connection processing unit 9 through the setting and the facsimile text (received original) is printed out by a printer 5 through an I/O circuit 10.
