PURPOSE: To improve the reliability in fail-safe control by detecting the trouble of a water temperature sensor when the engine water temperature detected by the water temperature sensor is lower than a prescribed value after the duration of the engine revolution for a certain time measured by a timer.
CONSTITUTION: An electronic controller 10 drives shift solenoids 5 and 6 and a lock up solenoid 7 on the basis of the signals of a T/M output revolution speed sensor 1 and a throttle sensor 2, and carries out the prescribed speed change control. In a CPU 11, the duration time of the engine revolution state is measured on the basis of the engine revolution speed signal 3, and when the engine water temperature detected by a water temperature sensor 4 is lower than a prescribed value, in spite of the duration for a certain time, it is judged that the water temperature sensor 4 is broken, and a trouble alarm device 8 transmits alarm information, and fail-safe control, i.e. the max. high speed stage operation and the operation of a lock-up clutch are prohibited. Therefore, the reliability of the fail-safe controller can be improved.
