This device is equipped with an input rotational frequency detecting means (20) for detecting an input rotational frequency (Na) of the automatic transmission (3), an output rotational frequency detecting means (22) for detecting an output rotational frequency (Nc) of the automatic transmission (3), an intermediate rotational frequency detecting means (21) for detecting an intermediate rotational frequency (Nb) of the automatic transmission (3), and a failure detecting means for detecting individually failures of the input rotational frequency detecting means (20), the output rotational frequency detecting means (22) and the intermediate rotational frequency detecting means (21) and inappropriate gear ratios of the automatic transmission (3), on the basis of each output of the input rotational frequency detecting means (20), the output rotational frequency detecting means (22) and the intermediate rotational frequency detecting means (21).
