Abstract:
To provide a failure detection device and a failure detection method capable of determining failure of a cylinder inner pressure detection section or a rotating angle detection section in an internal combustion engine having a variable compression ratio mechanism.SOLUTION: A failure detection device 20 for an internal combustion engine 50 having a variable compression ratio mechanism 10 includes: a speed detection section 21 for detecting engine speed of the internal combustion engine 50; a cylinder inner pressure detection section 22 detecting cylinder inner pressure of the internal combustion engine 50; a rotating angle detection section 23 for detecting a rotating angle of a control shaft 16 changing a compression ratio of the internal combustion engine 50; and a control section 25 controlling the internal combustion engine 50. In the failure detection device, the control section 25 acquires beforehand correlation between the compression ratio and the cylinder inner pressure, and determines that either or both of the cylinder inner pressure detection section 22 and the rotating angle detection section 23 have failure when actual cylinder inner pressure detected by the cylinder inner pressure detection section 22 in an operating state with stable cylinder inner pressure is deviated from the cylinder inner pressure obtained from the correlation by a specified value α or greater.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
