In this falling liquid film-type heat exchanger for performing the heat exchange between the first fluid flowing on an inner part of the heat transfer face and the second fluid flowing from an upper part to a lower part on the outer part of the heat transfer face, the outer part of the heat transfer face has a photocatalytic layer including a hydrophilic substance on its surface, the heat exchanger 1 is accommodated in an airtight container 6, the airtight container 1 has one or more light transmitting means 7, and one or more light sources 8 are mounted on the outer part of the airtight container 6 for applying the light to the photocatalytic layer 4 formed on a surface of the outer part of the heat transfer face, through the light transmitting means. The light transmitting means is configurated by viewports formed by making opening parts on a shell member configurating the airtight container, and covering the opening parts with a light transmitting material.
