To provide a method which fast accesses a digital data stream representing video or audio information.

This method is to fast access the digital data stream representing the video or audio information which can be marked in such a manner that a part of the stream information is temporarily erased. The method has the address information of stream objects (SOB) stored on a medium and a 1st table (ORG-PGC) having information about the temporarily erased stream objects (SOB). A 2nd table (UD-PGC) has the address information of stream objects (SOB) defined by a user, information (PGn) related to a program and cells (C-Ns). The information (PGn) related to the program has the cell number of a 1st cell following the last cell assigned to the program and also, the cell has the original cell number of a cell of the 1st table (ORG-PGC).
