A novel fastener comprises a head (15) having a recess (34) for receiving a rotary driver, a shank (12) having knurls (18) defined by generally helical grooves (22) and intersecting generally annular grooves (26), wherein a plurality of the knurls (18) include a lateral cutting edge, and a generally pointed tip (16). Another novel fastener comprises a shank (12) having a predetermined diameter small enough so that the head (15) will break away from said shank(12) upon application of a predetermined torque
