Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an alkyl ester of a fatty acid by which the production efficiency of the alkyl ester of the fatty acid can be heightened, and the cost required for the production of the alkyl ester of the fatty acid can be reduced, and to provide a production system.SOLUTION: The method for producing the alkyl ester of the fatty acid includes a reaction step of carrying out an ester interchanging reaction by mixing a raw material oil and fat with an alcohol by using as a catalyst a coal ash discharged from a fluidized bed boiler using limestone as a fluidizing medium, a first separation step of separating the product after the ester interchange reaction into a first liquid containing glycerol and the coal ash as main components, and a second liquid containing the alkyl ester of the fatty acid as a main component, and further containing one of calcium and magnesium derived from the coal ash, an insolubilizing step of adding an acid comprising at least one of acetic acid and sulfuric acid to the second liquid and mixing them to insolubilize the calcium or magnesium in the alkyl ester of the fatty acid by reacting the calcium or magnesium with the acid, and a second separation step of separating the insolubilized calcium or magnesium from a third liquid containing the alkyl ester of the fatty acid as a main component.
