Abstract:
To provide an excellent lipid metabolism promotor by identifying a gene associated with the lipid metabolism.
By QTL (quantitative character locus)-analyzing the F2 descendants of an Akita mouse which is a low insulinemia type diabetes model and an A/J mouse which is a normal non-diabetes model, a gene associated with body weights, blood glucose levels and blood insulin values is found to be present at a locus on a sixth chromosome. By further examinations, Bhlhb2 on the sixth chromosome is confirmed to inhibit the -oxidation of a fatty acid in myocyte. Therefore, by the inhibition of BHLHB2 protein or the regulation of expression of Bhlhb2, the lipid metabolism is improved.
