PURPOSE: To judge whether a roll-shaped recording medium is cut well according to the detection signal of a medium pass sensor during the feed of the recording medium, by a method wherein the roll-shaped recording medium is cut by a cutter and the cut roll-shaped recording medium is fed for a time sufficient to allow the cut end part of the cut roll-shaped medium to pass the medium pass sensor.
CONSTITUTION: After a recording medium 17 is cut by a cutter 26, the cut recording medium 17 is fed for a time sufficient to allow the cut end part thereof to pass over the distance A up to a medium pass sensor 29. In this case, when the recording medium 17 is cut accurately, the medium pass sensor 29 detects the cut end part of the recording medium 17 and the detection signal changes but when the recording medium 17 is not perfectly cut and continues at a part, the detection signal does not change. A control part 37 judges whether the recording medium 17 is cut well from the presence of the change of the detection signal of the medium pass sensor 29 within the above-mentioned time to inform the same to an operator by a proper means such as a display.
