Abstract:

To provide an improved chisel type chip bin or other chip bins for handling finely crushed cellulose fiber material, for example, wood chips and a process for handling chips with maximal homogeneity.

This chip bin 10 comprises the first transition part of a conventional hollow, substantially right cylinder, the second transition part connected to the upper part, the main body part 15 and the bottom of the upper part, and the third transition part 23 that is set beneath the second part and on the metering device, for example, a metering screw 25 or a star-form feeder. The third transition part 23 is operated so that it may not be fully filled with the chips to give the relief action to the chip compression. The third transition part 23 may be provided with stationery or movable baffle plates. The bin is equipped with a metering screw that can rotate downward to minimize or eliminate the thrust force to the bin or to the upper chips whereby the exhaustion of the chips can be facilitated. A bin or hopper can be provided that is equipped with a metering screw substantially beneath the outlet of slot.
