To provide a new viologen derivative.

The objective ferrocene-viologen derivative is expressed by general formula (1) (R1 is an alkylene group; R2 is an aryl or the like; Ar is a bivalent aromatic hydrocarbon group; X- and Y- are each independently a counter anion selected from halogen anion, ClO4-, BF4-, PF6-, AsF6-, SbF6-, CH3COO- and CH3(C6H4)SO3-).
