Title:
FERROELECTRIC LIQUID CRYSTAL DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH05341288
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To orient liquid crystal molecules parallel with substrates uniformly over a large area so that the operation of a high contrast ratio is enabled by using thin films consisting of a mixture composed of org. silanes having hetero atoms as liquid crystal oriented films on the substrates. CONSTITUTION:This ferroelectric liquid crystal device is constituted by having the oriented films 3 consisting of the mixture composed of the org. silane having a substituent contg. the hetero atoms and the org. silane contg. fluorine atoms as the liquid crystal oriented films 3 on the substrates 1 constituting the liquid crystal device and rubbing these thin films in order to obtain the uniform orientation of the ferroelectric liquid crystal. The ferroelectric liquid crystal 6 is preferably a chiral smectic liquid crystal. Liquid crystals and liquid crystal compsns. having phases, such as, for example, chiral smectic C phase, chiral smectic I phase, chiral smectic H phase, chiral smectic F phase and chiral smectic G phase, are usable.
