To provide a highly sensitive electronic device for detecting infrared rays, by injecting the infrared rays into a ferroelectric substance provided under a atmosphere from super high vacuum to atmospheric pressure, and emitting charge generated according to electric focusing coefficient of the ferroelectric substance from an emitter formed in the ferroelectric substance.
This photoelectric device 1 is stored in a vacuum container 11 having an infrared transmissive window 10, and no excessive charge exists on an interface of a ferroelectric substance 2 in a state in which high electric field is applied between a gate 5 and the ferroelectric substance 2. Infrared rays 12 go into the ferroelectric substance 2 through the infrared window 10, the temperature of the ferroelectric substance 2 rises, spontaneous polarization decreases to generate charge on the interface, and this charge is emitted as electrons 13 toward an anode 7. A metallic emitter is provided as an emitter 6 formed in the ferroelectric substance 2, electron emission can be performed stably and efficiently. As material forming the emitter 6, metal for cold cathode such as Mo or LaB6 and Si are used.
