Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fiber assembly suitable for a filter of prolonged filtration life by subjecting a nonwoven fabric comprising a polymer blend of a leachable polymer and an unleachable polymer to entanglement between them by water- flow entanglement method followed by leaching treatment.
SOLUTION: A polymer blend comprising at least tow components mutually incompatible containing 15-60wt.% of a water-soluble polymer component such as a polyethylene glycol with a weight-average molecular weight of 15,000-70,000 and 85-40wt.% of an insoluble polymer component such as a polyester elastomer or a polyethylene-chlorotrifuloroethylene copolymer or a fluoropolymer such as vinylidene fluoride polymer is spun-bonded or melt-blown into a nonwoven web or the polymer blend is extruded through a T-die into a film and the film is split to form a nonwoven web from the slit yarns. These nonwoven webs are three-dimensionally interlaced by the water-flow entangling technique, simultaneously the leachable component is removed to give the objective fiber assembly having an average fiber diameter of 0.001-20μm and 4 or more inflection points A in the pore size distribution curve.
