Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new fiber composite material having small kinetic friction coefficient, excellent in abrasion resistance, lightness and impact resistance, having not only corrosion resistance but also creep resistance and spalling resistance, usable as a sliding material because of high hardness, and excellent as a member for a brake not requiring high frequent exchange because of abrasion resistance such as a C/C composite.
SOLUTION: This fiber composite is composed of 55-75 wt.% carbon, 1-10 wt.% silicon and 10-50 wt.% silicon carbide, and comprises a yarn assemblies 6 having yarns comprising at least bundles of a carbon fiber and a carbon component without the carbon fiber, oriented in the layer direction, and three- dimensionally combined and integrated so as not to be separated from each other, and a matrix filling the space among neighboring yarns 2A in the yarn assemblies 6, and composed of a Si-SiC-based material. The fiber composite has 0.05-0.6 kinetic friction coefficient and a porosity regulated so as to be 0.5-10%.
