To obtain a fiber capable of applying a phyllosilicate powder to the fiber with good durability and useful for mitigating and preventing atopic dermatitis, etc., by including a prescribed amount of the swellable natural phyllosilicate.
This fiber contains 0.001-30 wt.% of a swellable natural phyllosilicate having 0.01-5 μm average grain diameter according to a dynamic light scattering method, ≥30 mV absolute value of ζ potential according to an electrophoretic scattering method and ≥99% purity according to a powder X-ray diffractometry, e.g. a purified smectite. The fiber is preferably one or more selected from a natural fiber, a regenerated fiber, a chemical fiber and a synthetic fiber. The swellable natural phyllosilicate is preferably mixed in the fiber or applied to the fiber. Furthermore, the fiber is preferably a core- sheath type conjugate fiber and the swellable natural phyllosilicate is preferably mixed in the sheath component thereof.
