Abstract:

To produce fibers selectively and efficiently collecting metal ions of groups IB, IIB metals dissolved in water, especially, gold, silver and mercury without being affected by alkali metal ions, alkaline earth metal ions, or the like.

A radical polymerizable compound containing a glycidyl group is graft-polymerized by the irradiation with electron beam and the glycidyl group of the graft chain of the obtained graft polymer is substituted with a mercapto group and a hydroxyl group to obtain the fibers having the metal ion adsorbing capacity. These fibers can selectively and efficiently collect the metal ions of the group IB, IIB metals from water without being affected especially by alkali metal ions, alkaline earth metal ions, or the like.
