To provide a fiber for a pulp raw material suitable for the production of a pulp composed of a liquid crystal polyester giving a synthetic paper having excellent heat-resistance, chemical resistance and non-water absorbing property as well as high strength and elastic modulus, a method for producing the fiber, a synthetic pulp produced from the fiber and having dispersibility in water as well as interlocking property of the pulp fibers to attain excellent paper-making property and a synthetic paper produced from the synthetic pulp.
The fiber for a pulp raw material is a sea-and-island blended fiber containing a liquid crystal polyester as the island component and a non-liquid crystal thermoplastic polymer as the sea component. Fifty(50) to 95% of the island component has a nearly circular form satisfying R2/R1≤2 and the remaining 50 to 5% of the island component has a non-circular form satisfying R2/R1>2 wherein R1 is the diameter of the smallest circle inscribed to the island component in the cross-section of the fiber and R2 is the diameter of the largest circumscribed circle.
