Title:
FIBER REINFORCED COMPOSITE METALLIC MATERIAL AND ITS PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0790421
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a lightweight composite material contg. reinforcing fibers at high density (high vol. fraction) by orienting and assembling nonmetallic reinforcing fibers each coated with a magnetic metal and infiltrating a matrix metal into the resulting mass.

CONSTITUTION: Nonmetallic fibers each coated with a magnetic metal are oriented and assembled in gas by dropping into a mold vibrated in a magnetic field and a matrix metal selected from Al, Mg and an Al-Mg alloy is infiltrated into the resulting mass to obtain the objective low density lightweight composite material contg. reinforcing fibers at a high vol. fraction of 35-45%.
