Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a fiber-reinforced functionalized polyolefin composite excellent in strengths and esp. suitable for laminated composite bumper beams at a low cost by incorporating a specific glass fiber mat and a functionalized polyolefin into the same.
CONSTITUTION: This composite is a glass-reinforced resin sheet contg. a continuous glass fiber mat and a functionalized polyolefin. The composite pref. further contains another polyolefin and a carbon black. The functionalized polyolefin is polypropylene functionalized with maleic anhydride, and the glass fiber mat is pretreated with a size comprising an aq. compsn. which does not contain a peroxide, contains a polymerizable amine, an organosilane, a water-dispersible film-forming polymer, and an emulsified polyolefin, and further contains a carboxylic acid. A laminated composite contg. the above-mentioned is suitably used as a bumper beam, has excellent dynamic strengths, and can be produced economically and at a low cost.
