PURPOSE: To produce a fiber-reinforced metal composite material having high specific strength, specific rigidity, strength and wear resistance by using an amorphous high-strength alloy consisting of Mg, Ni, Y, etc., as the matrix metal and an inorg. fiber consisting of Si, Ti, C, O, etc., as the reinforcement.
CONSTITUTION: An amorphous high-strength heat-resistant alloy shown by formula MgaPbQc or the composite of the amorphous alloy and the microcrystalline alloy is used as the matrix metal. In the formula, P is ≥1 kind of metallic element selected from Ni, Cu and Zn, Q is ≥1 kind of metallic element selected from Y, lanthanoids, misch metals and Ca, (a), (b) and (c) are atom%, 50≤a≤95, 0.1≤b≤40, and 0.1≤c≤30. An amorphous continuous inorg. fiber consisting essentially of Si, M (Ti or Zr), C and O is used as the inorg. fiber. A fiber reinforced metal composite material is prepared by the matrix metal with the inorg. fiber as the reinforcement, and a composite material excellent in mechanical characteristics is obtained.
