Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a fiber-reinforced insulating thermoplastic resin excellent in strength, modulus of elasticity, and toughness by treating oxynitride glass fibers with a surface-treating agent containing a silane coupling agent and impregnating the resulting fibers with a thermoplastic resin. CONSTITUTION:Oxynitride glass fibers having a structure obtained by replacing oxygen atoms in an oxide glass with nitrogen atoms are produced by melt spinning, etc. The fibers are then treated with a surface-treating agent containing a silane coupling agent. The coupling agent may be vinyltrichlorosilane, vinyltrimethoxysilane, etc., and is used in an amount of preferably about 0.05-5wt.% based on the whole surface-treating agent. The thus-treated fibers are impregnated with a thermoplastic resin (e.g. polyethylene) to thereby produce the title resin.
