Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fiber size for glass fibers capable of giving a fiber reinforced resin molded body excellent in water resistance and mechanical strength when used as a reinforcing material for a thermoplastic resin, especially polyamide resin and to obtain glass fibers for reinforcement provided with the fiber size.
SOLUTION: A methyl ester modified maleic acid-isobutylene copolymer and a blocked isocyanate as essential components, a coating film forming resin, a silane coupling agent and a lubricant as other conventional components are diluted with water to prepare the objective fiber size for glass fibers contg. 1-10wt.% of the copolymer and 1-5wt.% of the isocyanate. This fiber size is stuck to glass fibers by 0.2-3wt.% (expressed in terms of solid matter) and chopped strands are formed.
