To provide a measurement method and a measurement system by which fiber skew of a multi-cored optical fiber is simply measured with a high efficiency.
One end of each optical fiber of a multi-cored optical fiber 10 to be measured is automatically and sequentially selected, sine wave modulation light is given to the selected fiber, sine wave modulation light is outputted from a photocoupler 16 connected to all the other ends of each fiber of the multi-cored optical fiber 10, phases of the sine wave modulation light after propagation through each optical fiber is obtained and a difference between a maximum and a minimum optical propagation time among the optical propagation times is used as a fiber skew. The measurement system is provided with a sine wave modulation light output means, an optical path changeover means 15, a photocoupler 16, and a phase measurement means. In this system, an optical connector 18 is provided at both ends of the multi-cored optical fiber 10 and may be connected to the optical path changeover means 15 and the photocoupler 16 via a fan-out cord 17.
