Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fiber-treating agent not containing free phenol and free from the environment and drainage problem and non-pulp paper using the fiber- treating agent.
SOLUTION: The fiber-treating agent comprises, as essential component, an aqueous resol resin having ≤0.1 wt.% free phenol content, e.g. an aqueous resol obtained by reacting aldehydes with phenols at 0.2-0.6 molar ratio of [aldehydes]/[phenols] to provide a novolak resin (A) and then reacting the novolak resin (A) with aldehydes. The non-pulp paper is obtained therefrom.
