This field emission electron source includes an insulating substrate, a plurality of row electrode lead wires and a plurality of column electrode lead wires installed on the insulating substrate, and a plurality of electron emitting units. A plurality of grids are formed by crossing the plurality of row electrode lead wires and the plurality of column electrode lead wires. One electron emitting unit is installed on each grid. The electron emitting unit includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode and a negative electrode emitter. The positive electrode and the negative electrode are installed separately from each other. The positive electrode is electrically connected to the row electrode lead wire. The negative electrode is electrically connected to the column electrode lead wire. The negative electrode emitter is electrically connected to the negative electrode, and installed separately from the positive electrode.
