To solve the problem that indentations provided on the lateral side of a binding band for preventing slippage catch a holding plate and the plate can not be set smoothly when the binding band is passed through the holding plate to file papers in a usual file, in regard to a method for the usual file wherein the binding band is passed through the papers and fixed by the holding plate when the papers are bound to be filed and wherein after the binding band is passed through the papers, it is passed, from the fore end, through a hole made in the holding plate for passing the band through and then a fastener provided on the plate is slid to fix the band.

A notch part is provided in the lateral edge part of a pass hole for the binding band provided in the holding plate of the file, so that the band can be slid sideward into the hole. According to this constitution, it is unnecessary to raise the holding plate to the fore end of the binding band, as is the case with the usual file, when the papers are filed. Since the binding band is slid sideward into the holding plate, the indentations provided on the lateral side of the band for preventing slippage do not catch the plate and thus the papers can be filed easily and quickly.
