PURPOSE: To reduce an installing space and facilitate an assembling or replacement of filling material by a method wherein a damper to be bent and deformed in response to a temperature of water sprinkled from an upper part of a cooling tower is applied to cover an upper end between required filling material plates.
CONSTITUTION: There is provided a laminated type filling material filled in a vertical counterflow type cooling tower, wherein corrugated projections 17 are formed on an entire surface of the material. Filling material plates 1 spaced apart by a specified amount by spacers 16 are used to form a wetting part 1-1. Each of partition plates 12 and 12 punched with a water drain hole 15 is installed at the upper ends of the filling materials 1, 1. A bimetal made of shape memory alloy deformed in response to a water temperature or each of movable dampers 11-1, 11-2 made of shape memory plastic material is fixed to an opposing inner surface of the partition plate 12. A base supporting point 13 of each of the dampers bends in response to a temperature of water dispersed from the upper part of the tower to become a roof, resulting in that a drying part 1-2 is formed below it. Water dispersed on to the roof flows down from a water drain hole 15 toward the filling plate material 11.
