PURPOSE: To provide a filler material of good rectification efficiency for activating the renewal of the free surface of a liquid film, improving the turbulence or dispersion effect in the filler material and also improving the gas-liquid contact efficiency.
CONSTITUTION: A number of projected sections 2 and projected sections 3 are formed on the surface of a sheet material 1, and the height of the projected sections 2 and that of the projected sections 3 are different, and the sections are formed alternately in the flowing-down direction of a liquid 4. As the heights of projected sections 2 and 3 are varied to the flowing-down direction, the liquid film thickness of the liquid 4 is varied to activate the renewal of the free surface of the liquid film. It accelerates the turbulence or dispersion effect of the liquid 4 to increase the gas-liquid contact interfaces and also increase the speed between gas and liquid.
