PURPOSE: To reduce the cost of a cooling tower body by forming air exclusive passages through which only air passes from a suction side to a discharge side between fillers at each arbitrary interval and at least every other interval among many filler plates.

CONSTITUTION: Air exclusive passages 12 through which only air passes are provided between fillers at least at every other interval among many filler plates 11. Each air exclusive passage 12 is formed under an elongated shade plate covering the upper end of adjacent filer plates 11. Remaining passages not covered with the shade plates 13 are used as passages 14 for water to be cooled. Accordingly, the air passing through the air exclusive passages 12 made intermittently contact with the water to be cooled via the filler plates 11 and is thereby to dry air which has constant absolute humidity but only temperature raised. Thus, the dry air can be produced together with air which makes direct contact with the water to be cooled in the other passages and is raised in its absolute temperature parallel in a single filler unit. Hereby the cost of a cooling tower body can be reduced.
