To provide a film forming method for an organic EL element by which plural kinds of organic EL films having different luminous colors are selectively coated by simple method.

This method is to form a plural kinds of organic EL layers of different materials (preferably emitting red, green and blue lights) by coating selectively into a stripe-shaped pattern on a substrate of the organic EL element. Barrier ribs 43 partitioned regions 44 on which respective patterns are formed are formed on a substrate 41, while the substrate is kept aslant into longitudinal direction of the regions 44. Solutions 6R, 6G, 6B, dissolving materials for forming the organic EL films emitting red, green and blue lights, are prepared and these solutions 6R, 6G, 6B are respectively supplied at the upper end of the corresponding regions 44 and the solutions 6A, 6G, 6B flow down by dint of gravity and fill the regions 44.
