PURPOSE: To provide a filter aid which decreases leakage and improves the life of filter elements by mixing fibers with activated carbon or materials deposited thereon with activated carbon and precoating the mixture on the elements.
CONSTITUTION: Fibers having excellent hygroscopicity such as cotton cellulose fibers, etc. subjected to defatting, refining and beating are mixed with activated carbon particles or materials deposited thereon with activated carbon, and the mixture is precoated on elements contained in cases. Or after the fibers are precoated on the elements, the activated carbon or the materials deposited thereon with the activated carbon are precoated thereon to form filter layers. According to this filter aid, the small parts of the activated carbon filter aids where the particle sizes are small can be captured with the mixed fibers; therefore, the clogging of the filter elements and the leakage of the filter aids are prevented. Thus there is the effect for improving the life of the filter elements.
