To provide a filter press apparatus and a method for removing its cake which can properly remove a cake from a filtering cloth.

The filter press apparatus is for filtering of a slurry by pinchingly attaching filtering clothes 43 among a plurality of filter plates 12 under an overlaying state while being supported by a machine frame. The filter plates 12 comprises combination of the two kinds of filter plates with filtering clothes 31 and diaphragm filter plate 32 located between the filter plates with filtering clothes 31. The filter plates with filtering clothes 31 possesses a filter cloth main body 38, a driving device 42, sprocket 39 and filtering clothes 43 covering at least one surface of a chain 41 and the filer plate main body 38, and the sprockets 39 arranged on the upper and lower ends of the filtering plate main body 38, the chains 41 are put across the upper and lower sprockets 39. The filter clothes 43 are connected to the chains 41, the chain 41 is moved to circulate once from one surface to the other surface of the filtering plate main body 38, and the filtering clothes 43 together with the chain 41 can be moved between one surface and the other surface of the filtering plate main body 38.
