Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a filter unit which minimizes pressure drop by providing the filter unit with a by-pass valve for reorienting fluid to the filter by acting to close an extending by-pass between certain positions downstream of an inlet passage and an anti-backflow valve of an outlet passage through the housing.
CONSTITUTION: This filter unit has a housing 30 including filter elements 34, an inlet 39 for fluid, an inlet passage 51, an outlet passage 47 and a valve 53 for closing the inlet passage. When the valve is closed, by a by-pass valve 42 opens and the inlet is directly connected to the housing outlet 40. An anti- backflow valve 50 exists at the outlet passage and the backflow of fluid to the filter elements by flowing down the outlet passage is prevented. The size of the filter unit may thus be minimized and the pressure drop may be minimized.
