To provide a filter unit capable of smoothly removing foreign substances of both high and low specific gravities, which may be vertically, horizontally, or obliquely installed.
The filter unit comprises a cylindrical main body 1, a filter element 2 coaxially installed therein allowing a fluid rid of foreign substances to pass through and having a fluid intake opening at one axial end 2a thereof whose diameter is smaller than that of the main body 1, a fluid intake pipe 5 tangentially attached to the circumferential wall of the main body 1 at a position near the fluid intake opening, a discharge pipe 7 for discharging the filtered fluid tangentially attached to the circumferential wall of the main body 1 at the other axial end 2b of the filter element 2, the first foreign substance discharge pipe 8 for discharging foreign substances of a higher specific gravity tangentially attached to the circumferential wall of the main body 1 at a position in the axially opposite direction relative to the fluid intake pipe 5, in which direction the filter element 2 is located, and the second foreign substance discharge pipe 9 from which foreign substances of a lower specific gravity is discharged along the center axis x of the main body 1, coaxially attached at the other axial end 2b of the filter element 2.
