PURPOSE: To obtain a filtering material for molten metal having excellent strength, free from contamination of molten metal and useful for the filtration of molten metal, etc., by bonding one or more kinds of aggregate particles such as SiC or Si3N4 with an inorganic binder containing specific amounts of B2O3, Al2O3, CaO, etc.
CONSTITUTION: Aggregate particles are produced by compounding one or more components selected from SiC, Si3N4, electromelted alumina and sintered alumina. Separately, an inorganic binder is produced by compounding 15W80wt.% of B2O3, 2W60wt.% of Al2O3 and 5W50wt.% of CaO and mixing the mixture with 10W20mol. of SiO2 based on 100mol. of B2O3. 4W20pts.wt. of the inorganic binder is added to 100pts.wt. of the above aggregate particles, kneaded together with an organic binder and water, etc., formed, dried and baked to obtain the objective filtering material for molten metal.
