To provide an apparatus and a method for cleaning a filter medium, wherein when the filter medium is cleaned by a simple structure, stains removed when the filter medium is cleaned are not stuck again to the cleaned filter medium and even rigid deposit is surely removed so that a filtration function or durability of the filter medium to be reused is not deteriorated and an increase in the running cost thereof is prevented.

The apparatus for cleaning the filter medium is constituted so that a dehydration cylinder having a water-passable wall is arranged inside a cylindrical casing, an agitating/cleaning part to be rotated by a drive means is arranged inside the dehydration cylinder, and a filter medium supply port for supplying the filter medium to be agitated/cleaned in the dehydration cylinder and a filter medium take-out port for taking out the cleaned filter medium are arranged in the dehydration cylinder, and a drain outlet for draining the water separated by dehydration in the dehydration cylinder is arranged in the cylindrical casing.
