To provide a filter capable of compacting a cake not only to accelerate dehydration but also to adjust the degree of compaction of the cake.
The filter is equipped with a cylindrical or conical inside filter medium 1 arranged in a concentric state, an outside filter medium 2 and the spiral partition 3 provided to the filter space 4 between the inside filter medium 1 and the outer filter medium 2. Since the spiral partition 3 is not rotated, only the inside filter medium 1 or the outside filter medium 2 is rotated around the axis of the filter. In this operation process, a liquid to be treated is sent into the filter space 4 from one end side thereof to be successively filtered through the inside filter medium 1 and the outer filter medium 2 while the filtrate is discharged and the cake is discharged from the other end side of the filter space 4. A mechanism for axially applying squeezing force to the cake discharged from the cake discharge port 14 is provided to the cake discharge port 14 formed to the other end side of the filter space 4.
