To provide finishing device for a toroidal-type continuously variable transmission and the method of finishing where the outer diameter of the first shaft of the pivot shaft can be very accurately and stably finished in a short time and a processing cycle can be shortened.
The pivot shaft finishing device for the toroidal-type continuously variable transmission 10 finishes the first shaft 3 of the pivot shaft 1 which supports the power roller of the toroidal-type continuously variable transmission. Namely, the transmission 10 is provided with at least two or more rollers 11, 12, 13 which come into contact with a second shaft 2 of the pivot shaft 1 to give a rotational power to the second shaft 2 and support the second shaft 2 and a backing plate 14 which positions the pivot shaft 1 by the rotating pivot shaft 1 pressed by the rollers 11, 12, 13 and finishes the rotating first shaft 3 of the pivot shaft 1 with a grinding wheel.
