To provide a finishing coating material for a building, good for human health, having environmental advantage, and providing excellent designing effects when being applied on an interior structural material or the like, and excellent operability at the application at a site without using a chemical material at all, and to provide a method for producing the finishing coating material.

The finishing coating material is obtained by using sawdust of a natural wood subjected to softening and harshness-removing treatments, vegetable paste, and chitin/chitosan as main materials, adding water thereto, stirring and kneading the resultant mixture to afford a paste-shaped finishing coating material. Optionally, one or a combination thereof selected from a natural coloring matter, a photocatalyst and a powder of scallops is contained in the main material.
