To provide a fire extinguishing system and a fire extinguishing method for a rechargeable battery facility capable of preventing erroneous reporting and malfunction, and starting a fire extinguishing operation quickly.SOLUTION: A fire extinguishing system for detecting and extinguishing a fire in a rechargeable battery facility room having a plurality of rechargeable batteries for supplying power to the outside includes: a temperature sensor for detecting the temperature of the rechargeable batteries; a smoke sensor for detecting smoke in the rechargeable battery facility room; a fire extinguishing agent storage discharge device for discharging a fire extinguishing agent into the rechargeable battery facility room; and a fire extinguisher control board for controlling the fire extinguishing agent storage discharge device so as to extinguish a fire in the rechargeable battery facility room on the basis of the temperature detected by the temperature sensor and the smoke detected by the smoke sensor.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
