To provide a firefly luciferase having an excellent amount of luminescence, and to provide a method for producing the same.

The firefly luciferase includes an amino acid sequence thereof. In the amino acid sequence, an amino acid corresponding to the 344th position of Luciola lateralis luciferase is mutated into alanine; the amino acid corresponding to the 287th position thereof is mutated into alanine; the amino acid corresponding to the 326th position thereof is mutated into serine; the amino acid corresponding to the 467th position thereof is mutated into isoleucine; and the amino acid corresponding to the 75th position thereof is mutated into alanine. The firefly luciferase having the improved amount of luminescence can be produced by utilizing the gene.
