PURPOSE: To obtain a fireproof fabric suitable for use as a heat or flame barrier by coating the surface of a flame-resistant woven or knit fabric substrate formed of corespun yarns comprising a core of flame-resistant filaments and a sheath of staple fibers with an intumescent flameproof coating material.
CONSTITUTION: This fireproof fabric 10 is obtained by coating one surface of a woven or knit fabric substrate 11 formed of corespun yarns 15 comprising a core of flame-resistant filaments (e.g. glass fibers) and a sheath of staple fibers such as cotton, polyester, wool or nylon with an intumescent flameproof coating material 20 (e.g. made from a carboxylic compound, catalyst and nonflammable gas source) at about 6.8-680 g/cm2 to form an intumescent flameproof coating layer with an air permeability of 0.028-8.49 m3/min. By the way, the opposite surface of the above coating material 20 is coated with a reflective flame durable paint 30 to help reflect the radiation heat emitted from a lower side ignitable material.
