PURPOSE: To obtain a toner image fixing roll which is capable of raising a temperature quickly, by rotating relatively a permanent magnet roll having plural magnetic poles and a cylindrical body placed coaxially on the outside circumference of said roll, operating an alternating field on the cylindrical body, and heating it.
CONSTITUTION: A permanent magnet roll 5 having plural magnetic poles extending in the lengthwise direction of a heating roll 1 is fixed to a shaft 6 and is provided in the center of the roll 1, and is made freely rotatable together with a cylindrical member 7 placed coaxially on its outside circumference. The cylindrical member 7 is formed by a ferromagnetic metallic material Fe, Ni, etc., and the surface of the member 7 is covered with a thin parting material (a fluorine compound or silicon compound resin) 8. The roll 5 and the cylindrical member 7 are rotated relatively, an alaternating field is operated on the cylindrical member 7 and it is heated by an overcurrent and a hysteresis loss. In this way, a fixation device which rises quickly up to a fixation temperature and has a long life and heating efficiency is obtained. A press-contact roll 2 can also be heated in the same way.
