The fixing apparatus has residual toner on the periphery surface of the cleaning roller 48 melted and pressed into a uniform thickness by rotational contact with a high temperature pressurizing roller 42 since surface temperature t1 of a heating roller 41 is raised to a cleaning temperature tf and a surface temperature t2 of the pressurizing roller 42 is raised until exceeding a fixing lower limit temperature te by heat conduction between the heating roller 41 and the pressurizing roller 42 when a printing process is terminated and a standby mode begins even when the residual toner is made granular and attached disproportionately to the periphery surface of the cleaning roller 48 in the printing process.
