To improve the durability of a belt by preventing the occurrence of the residual deformation of a fixing belt or an intermediate transfer belt to prevent defects on the surface of the belt and also, to obtain a satisfactorily fixed image, in a fixing device and an image forming apparatus wherein an unfixed toner image on a recording medium or the intermediate transfer belt is heated and melted by an electromagnetic induction heating device and the toner image is transferred and fixed on the recording medium.
In the fixing device and the image forming apparatus, after a heating operation by the electromagnetic induction heating device is stopped, the belts 21 and 55 are intermittently driven to run or continuously driven to run at a low speed until a temperature detected by a temperature detecting device lowers to a prescribed temperature. Thus, the residual deformation of the belt is prevented, the durability of the belt is improved, and the toner image is stably fixed.
