Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device capable of reducing damage received by a fixing member at the time of emergency stop of an image forming apparatus upon the occurrence of abnormality.SOLUTION: A fixing device 20 comprises: a rotatable fixing belt 21; a halogen heater 23 that heats the fixing belt with radiation heat; a pressure roller 22 that is brought into contact with an outer peripheral surface of the fixing belt to form a nip part N; and a shield member 27 that is made movable between the fixing member and the heat source to change the area of a heating target area α of the fixing belt 21 that is heated by the halogen heater 23. When an image forming apparatus stops in emergency upon the occurrence of abnormality such as paper jam, the fixing device controls the shield member 27 to stop at a position at the time of the occurrence of abnormality, and not to move to other places.
