Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device capable of achieving surface nature recovery over a long period of time by performing the accurate detection of the surface state of a fixing member, thereby performing a surface nature recovery operation only when necessary.SOLUTION: The fixing device including a fixing member 26 being a rotary body and bringing the fixing member 26 into contact with a recording medium having an unfixed image, while rotating the fixing member 26, to fix an image to the recording medium includes detection means 33 which can detect the surface state of the fixing member 26, surface nature recovery means 34 which recovers the surface state of the fixing member 26, and further, control means 39 which controls the fixing member 26 and the surface nature recovery operation of the surface nature recovery means 34. The surface nature recovery operation includes a first surface nature recovery operation for recovering the surface state of the fixing member 26, before the detection by the detection means 33 is performed and a second surface nature recovery operation for recovering the surface state of the fixing member 26, after the detection by the detection means 33 is performed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
