Abstract:
To provide a fixing device having both of the contact/separation operation of a fixing member and medium detection and an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: The fixing device includes a rotatable pressure member, a fixing member which comes into contact with an outer peripheral surface of the pressure member and is rotated together with the pressure member, a separation member which separates a medium after passing through a nip part between the fixing member and the pressure member from the fixing member, and a medium detection member which detects the medium after passing through the nip part between the fixing member and the pressure member. The fixing member can be displaced in the direction of approaching the pressure member and in the direction of separating from it. The separation member moves following the displacement of the fixing member, while maintaining a positional relationship with the medium detection member.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
